Even the sun appeared in a lazy fashion
mimicking my inertia this Saturday or so I liked to imagine as the first rays
intruded through my windows. I snuggled deeper into my bed and pulled the cover
over my head in effort to lengthen the night. I sighed deeply and was about to
plunge into sleep again as my brain tumbled over a memory from last night,
sitting a chain reaction that brought back the events from 12 hours ago with
resounding clarity and I sat up in bed at lighting speed, awake and alarmed.
I heard a
beautiful song just outside my room. She was watering the plants when I stepped
outside the door. My vision was blurry and my steps were faint. I recognized
her voice from the deepest part of my heart. It was of my wife’s voice. I
stepped towards her slowly and then I picked her in my arms with love. She was
surprised by the way I picked her. The smile of her at that time was the best
part of my everyday life. Then I hugged her tightly and said, “Darling, you are
everything for me. Happy Birthday.”
Yeah it was
her birthday. I closed her eyes with my warm fingers and took her in a dark
room. When she opened her eyes, I turned on the lights. She saw a room full of
candles, the shimmering lights, a big cake at the middle and the
People
gathered around the room. I had planned yesterday night for her birthday. I
knew that birthday is one of the most important day of everyone’s life. After
all it was my wife’s birthday.
She hugged me for few minutes. Her eyes were
wet, her heart beat raised and yeah, she was crying.
She looked
everywhere but she didn’t see her parents there. I knew that she needed them at
that day. When she held the knife and started cutting her birthday cake, her
mother from one side and father from another side came near to her singing a
birthday song. I still remember that moment of joy created by that particular
event. She never thought they would come for her birthday travelling miles of
distance. I arranged the snacks, some delicious food and dessert for the
peoples who came and made her birthday a special day. She was so happy. I took
her photos every now and then. We danced together in front of all. Whole day we
all played games, shared our thoughts and feelings with each other, laughed
even at bad jokes. I never realized that her birthday would be the best day of
her life.
When the
party were at the end, she recognized that it was me who wanted to give her a
few moments of happiness and freedom at the most special day of her life. She
knew that my love for her is unconditional. So she came near to me, held my
hand, took me in front of all and opened her mouth for few words. Pointing me she said, “Today is the best day
of my life and he is the biggest gift of god to me and I’m not going to leave
him till the end of my life and after then.” She really made me cry.
After few
hours of sunset, we cleaned the room meticulously and went to bed. I hugged her
so tightly and talked with her about our future kids, her wishes, and her
dreams and promised her to make each of her dream come true. Really, I didn’t
knew how to celebrate a birthday, especially of the special ones but I knew
that making her wonder with surprises, giving her something that is most
valuable for her and showing the love inside me for her was the best way to
make her birthday special. After all she is my wife and of course, yeah,
because it was her birthday.
