This is a story of my childhood friend who was from a very poor family. His father was alcoholic and committed suicide when he turned 15. This poem is actually about the darkness he had gone through after his father’s death and his journey from the darkness to the dawn.
From Darkness to Dawn
1
A sweet little
baby was on the way,
His parents were counting each single day,
He opened his eyes and spread delight,
Under the starry skies that shined so bright.
2
He grew up quickly and he tried to Fly,
But the laugher and joy mixed with a few tears
to cry,
He had seen his mother and grandma quarrelling
before,
His father with whisky bottle lying at the door,
His father with whisky bottle lying at the door,
3
His father condemned his actions
And his mother with total lack of care,
He had no one of his own
For the
feelings he wanted to share.
4
One day his father died having cyanide,
He had to suffer a lot but he had to fight.
His eyes were wet with tears and grief,
His doubts were chewing out his beliefs.
5
His hopes were burnt along with trust,
He counted the day as worse than lost.
He had to pay for that at a heavy cost,
What he had wished for, most turned dust.
6
The path of happiness disappeared and the wind
killed the flame,
The light has broken and the darkness brought
him a shame.
Then he headed out the home to confront his fears,
He walked in the lonely road with his eyes flooded with tears.
7
He held his breath and stepped outside the door,
He wanted to do the things he had never done
before.
He said ‘it doesn’t matter and it won’t bother
me again,
He wasn’t afraid for letting the change begin.
8
He stood alone never there never minding the
past,
He has already gone through that and left it
all behind at last.
He knew - the world doesn’t care about his old
defeats,
So he forgot the buried ones and started to
walk on his own feet.
9
Finally, after seeking for happiness, he found
a way,
He started with nothing but courage each day.
His choices were so hard without fun,
He patiently struggled from darkness to dawn.
