How to Overcome Drug Addiction?

The names in this story are imaginary but the story is real. This is a story of a person from Dharan, Nepal. He told me about his life when I was waiting in the bus station. Hope you will enjoy this and help to raise the voice against drug addiction.

His name is Sameer.
He is just like you and me.
Like all of us he wants to be a great person.
He wants to make his parents proud.

At the age of 15 while he was having fun with his friends, Amit, a good friend of him offered him something like white powder to eat.
At that time he had no idea what that really was. He took it as fun and tasted a little and he found it quite interesting thing. The next day he forgot about that. Again his friend came near to him and gave him the same thing. But, that day he asked a question to his friend,
“Amit, what is it?"

His friend replied unknowingly,
"Nothing friend, it's kind of sweet, just have fun."

Amit knew that his friend was hiding something from him. So he again questioned.
"Amit, if you are not telling me the truth right now, I am not going take it anyway because yesterday after taking it I felt little different than usual."

Amit replied, " Look friend, it's kind of thing we call a drug. But there's nothing wrong about it, nothing to be afraid. Everyone takes it at this age. When we take it, it feels like heaven, man. And you know the best thing about it, you feel like nothing can stop you and you feel a very relief from inside. After all that's what we young people need. Just enjoy man. Don’t think much about it."

After getting this kind of explanation, how could he refuse?
He took it again and again.

He became addicted and habitual to it. He couldn’t stop taking it. Instead he started taking it at a little heavy dose every day.
For first few months, he got it for free from his friend. But after that when his friends refused to give him, he became very angry. His behavior changed so sudden. He started talking with people very annoyingly. Spending days alone, no care about anyone, seeking for something to relief. They were all the withdrawal syndromes. He became the actual victim of drug addiction. He just needed drugs, either by stealing money from someone or killing to get it.

As he was from the middle class family, he managed the money sometimes from his friends and sometimes from his family. He started using drugs again. Heroin, Cocaine, Brown sugar, and many more. Cigarette used to be his breakfast and alcohol used to be his dinner. For the lunch, he used take various drugs, first oral and then through syringes. His activities were very intolerable and unacceptable to his family and for the entire community.

One of his weekly job became visiting his brothers in the police station for his brave work of taking drugs and fighting on the streets. He ruined his life and let his family in a very miserable condition. Of course he never wanted to do that. Who could want to do that kind of sin? But it was not about wanting something. It was all about the circle of friend he had and no general guidance from the family and the people. After that he lost all his remained gratitude, trust and acceptance from people. He only got shame and mostly the hate from his own people and from others.

But one day somebody from his own family, his own cousin brother Rahul, who used to be a head of re-habitation center, a home where druggist were used to be taken and help them to leave the drugs. He showed him a way to get rid of all of it. Why would he listen to him as he never listened anyone? There was a reason behind it. Sameer was in love with someone, a very beautiful girl, Deekshya, who used to be a patient in re-habitation center 3 months before he met her. Sameer didn't know that. Rahul told her whole story to Sameer. Deekshya didn't quit the drugs even after meeting Sameer. Both were in love with each other for 6 months.
Rahul told him,
“Look bro, I know, you both love each other but till when this relation is going to remain? You are becoming weak physically, mentally, financially and socially day by day. How you are going spend the rest of your life with her like this? I know you never cared about anyone. You let your family bankrupt. You lost everything except her. If you keep going this way, one day you are surely going to lose her and after that your life will be as dark as night. If that is something you want to happen then go man, take drugs and die like you never existed before. I know, you were one of the brightest kid in our whole family. Do you remember you used to dare to repair electric instruments at home by your own? I could never do that. God gave you a brilliant mind and a worthy life. And I know you can do anything you want. Don't waste it bro. I know I am no one to tell you all this shit but I am telling you because I care. Everyone here cares about you but now they are just afraid that you will harm them someway. Just think bro, you and Deekshya and your whole family and a happy life."

Rahul's words touched his inner heart and he realized it from the depth and decided to go to the drug rehab center for the sake of his love and his family. He went there. Thereafter he faced many difficulties in quitting the drugs but he didn't give up. He finally overcame from the drug habits. He helped Deekshya for the same thing. Now he is doing very well in family and society and he is the owner of 5 bushes. Now he is living a very comfort life with Deekshya.
